What is the Rice Purity Test?
The Rice Purity Test began in 1924 at Rice University in Houston, Texas. A group of students created a short survey to measure how “pure” people were based on their life experiences. Later, in the 1980s, students expanded it into the well-known 100-question quiz that many people take today.
The test was originally meant for first-year college students, especially during Orientation Week, as a private way to reflect on their past before starting college life.
Its main purpose was to give students a fun and personal way to think about their experiences, habits, and relationships. Over time, it became very popular, and now people of all ages take it—friends, couples, and curious individuals alike.
Your score is based on how many boxes you check. Each checked item lowers your score, meaning you’ve had more life experiences. After answering all 100 questions, you’ll receive a number between 0 and 100. Higher scores usually suggest more innocence or fewer experiences, while lower scores point to having explored more.
People often ask what a “good” Rice Purity score is, but it really depends on your age and lifestyle. Many consider scores above 80 to be more innocent, while scores under 30 are seen as more experienced. Still, there’s no such thing as a bad score every result simply reflects different life paths and choices.
